big band charts
j. kern/c. mingus - all the things you C# (arr. A.Tarocchi)
This is a MIDI demo of a chart inspired by the Charlie Mingus/Mal Waldron's edition "All The Things You C#", quoting in turn the incipit of the Rachmanoff's Piano Prelude in C#.
The head is exposed in uni/octaves counterpointed lines. In this MIDI teaser there is an approximate tenor sax solo that I composed taking down the flowing idea from the John Coltrane's historical solo. The idea is of a tenor sax solo in a 'combo in the band' fashioned with only few punches and pads. The background becomes busier during the trumpet solo. For this reason the trumpet solo is omitted in the demo to let clearly listen what happens in the background. After the shout, the arrangement lands into the reprise through a chorale.
The chart is for 5 saxes (AATTB), 4 trumpets, 4 tbones (4th bass tbone) and rhythm section, medium-high level of difficulty; solos: tenor sax, trumpet.
t. monk - 'round midnight (arr. A.Tarocchi)
This is a MIDI demo of my chart of "Round Midnight" for female voice and jazz large ensemble. The vocal part has been rendered by a piano sound. The key is Bb minor in the exposition, Eb minor in the sax solo (omitted) and B natural minor in the reprise.
The chart is for 5 saxes (AATTB), 4 trumpets, 4 tbones (4th bass tbone) and rhythm section, medium-high level of difficulty; solo: alto sax.
music for various ensembles
g. gershwin - preludes (arr. A.Tarocchi)
I begun to think about an arrangement of this tune many, many years ago, when I was practicing the Three Preludes of Gershwin (first of which is this one)
on the piano for an exhibition at the Conservatory. Why not scoring it for a medium horn ensemble? After
a few years this was my band version.
The track had been release on the CD "Evening Standards And New Music" of the Jazz Chromatic Ensemble.
The chart is for 3 saxes (ATB), 2 trumpets, 2 tbones, tuba, double bass and drums. Medium-high level of difficulty
e. satie - manière de commencement (arr. A.Tarocchi)
First piece of the 'Trois morceaux en forme de poire', for piano, arranged for medium horn ensemble.
The track is an hommage to Eric Satie, released in the CD "Skydreams" of the Jazz Chromatic Ensemble (1995).
The chart is for 3 saxes (ATB), 2 trumpets, 2 tbones and tuba. The double bass can double the tuba. Low-medium level of difficulty
u. petrin - ritratto (arr. A.Tarocchi)
Umberto Petrin, besides being a very good friend, is one of the best piano players and composers in the jazz panorama worldwide. I love how he composes and performs musical poems. His 'Ritratto' ('Portrait') is a simple but effective tune that really 'paints'. Hard stuff to add new material in the arrangement. For these reasons I started from the last three notes of the head and developed them in a minimalistic concept, even more rarefact, landing into the
"tutti" reprise of the theme.
The track had been released in 1995 in the CD "Skydreams" of the Jazz Chromatic Ensemble.
The chart is for 3 saxes (ATB), 2 trumpets, 2 tbones, tuba and rhythm section w/guitar.
w. shorter - chief crazy horse (arr. A.Tarocchi)
This chart was a commission by the Daniele Cavallanti's Milano Contemporary Art Ensemble and released on a CD in 2015 by Rudi Records (personnel: Daniele Cavallanti, Riccardo Luppi, Francesco Chiapperini, Gianluca Elia, Massimo Falascone (winds), Luca Calabrese (trumpet), Beppe Caruso (trombone), Paolo Botti (viola), Alberto Tacchini (piano), Gianluca Alberti, Valerio Della Fonte (double basses), Tiziano Tononi, Toni Boselli (drums and percussions).
